Care Approaches in Rehabilitation for Effective Support for Dementia

Our project is dedicated to improving the quality of rehabilitation services for individuals living with dementia. Despite the proven benefits of rehabilitation in improving physical function and quality of life, individuals with dementia are often underserved due to the complexity of their condition and the limited training available to rehabilitation providers.

This initiative aims to bridge that gap by developing a comprehensive, research-based training program that equips rehabilitation providers with the knowledge and skills to deliver personalized, dementia-inclusive care. By drawing on findings from systematic reviews, input from patients, caregivers, and rehabilitation providers, and behaviour change frameworks like the Behaviour Change Wheel, we created an evidence-based approach that addresses both the physical and cognitive needs of dementia patients.

Through this project, we are committed to empowering rehabilitation providers to offer more effective care, ultimately enhancing the quality of life and independence of individuals living with dementia.

Our Approach

Our approach is rooted in evidence-based research and stakeholder collaboration, using behavior change frameworks like the Behaviour Change Wheel to develop practical, dementia-inclusive rehabilitation strategies. By engaging rehabilitation providers, caregivers, and patients throughout the process, we ensure that our interventions are tailored to the real-world needs of long-term care settings.

Research-Based Methods

Our project is built on rigorous research, including systematic reviews and the application of behavior change frameworks like the Behaviour Change Wheel and COM-B system, ensuring that our rehabilitation strategies are evidence-based and effective.

Stakeholder Engagement

We actively involve rehabilitation providers, family members, and rehabilitation providers throughout the development process, ensuring that the training and interventions we design are practical, relevant, and grounded in real-world needs.

Pilot and Testing

The training modules undergo thorough pilot testing with external stakeholders, and we continuously refine our approach based on their feedback to ensure the program meets the highest standards of care.

Our Partners

Our project thrives on strong partnerships with key organizations that support long-term care and rehabilitation services. Collaborating with industry leaders, such as care facilities and professional associations, allows us to leverage their expertise, resources, and networks to enhance the development and dissemination of our training program. These partnerships are essential for ensuring the relevance and impact of our work in improving dementia care.
